Home Minister’s Kashmir centric assurances

The fears of the two main political parties of the State stand addressed positively by the Union Home Minister that there would be no tinkering with the vexatious Article 35A. Without prejudice to the case under consideration of the Supreme Court, there could be no better and reliable assurance given by any other political authority on the subject than the Home Minister himself, that too in Srinagar while speaking in a press conference. Speaking precisely on the issue, he said, “There is no initiative by the Centre on Article 35A. The provisions in the Constitution are there and the Centre has not tinkered with any of those provisions. Elaborating further, he said, “It is difficult to answer when a non-issue is made into an issue.” Now, both National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party will find themselves in a piquant situation whether to review the boycott call for Panchayat elections or not as the wind has been taken out of the sails of both these parties by the Central Government on the plea of Article 35 A.
At the moment, we do not want to critically comment on the subject excepting seeing in the move a great step , nay, a leap taken by the Central Government towards de-escalation of the situation with a view to bring peace in the trouble torn State. The onus now is on the other side especially when it is proposed to engage the youth of the “State” in a constructive way by providing 11000 jobs through various initiatives which were going to be implemented in several stages. This was as regards the short term measure or the one under “active consideration” presently followed by steps to provide employment to nearly 2.5 lakh youth of the State.
In the words of the Union Home Minister, the measures would help the youth “to chart their own destiny”. Can now mainstream regional parties of the State take the initiative to pin pointedly go all hog in advising the misguided youth not to taking to the gun, getting tempted by the elusive “Aazadi”rhetoric and falling prey to indoctrination andother chicanery tactics of Pakistan which can go to any extent of skulduggery means to keep the violence and spilling of blood in Kashmir going. If these leaders really love Kashmir and the people as they claim, they must feel it as their holistic duty to publicly abhor the gun and those who take it in their hands, instead of always blaming the Central Government or casting aspersions on the security forces.
Calling the bluff of the politics of parroting of “talks and dialogue being the only solution”, the Home Minister, while reiterating that talks and terror could never go together, made the stand of the Central Governmentclear that it was ready to hold talks with “anyone including Pakistan”. He made a fervent appeal, “Give us this much assurance that there will not be any such attempt (of promoting terrorism) by Pakistan”, with whom for making friendship , the Prime Minister broke all the protocols even , going there, meeting the Prime Minister and his family members but from their side, they took no positive steps. Making it known that the Centre was ready to talk evento the separatists, a departure from the established stand, must create conducive atmosphere in the valley. It should be borne in mind by those, who with a few guns and grenades think that a mighty power could be made to succumb to their whims and goals, were living in the world of daydreaming. The “Bus” should not be missed every time as it was likely that such missing repeatedly would receive a tinker’s damn.
