Holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh demanded

JAMMU, Aug 20: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) has appealed to the Governor N.N Vohra to declare a public holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh which is falling on September 23.
In a press conference here today Rajveer Singh, YRS President said that Maharaja Hari Singh was the last Dogra ruler and is credited with various social reforms apart from accession of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India.

“The Maharaja passed legislations against social evils unlike his counterparts in the sub-continent and started many schools for girls and brought big reforms in education sector,” YRS leader said.
He further informed that Maharaja Hari Singh went against the orthodox beliefs and stopped child marriages and other wrongs in the then society.
YRS leaders said that protests demonstrations will be started if the Government does not concede the demand of public holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
