SRINAGAR, July 17: President Jammu Kashmir Bachao Tehreek and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that the situation was not “conducive” for any kind of elections in the Jammu and Kashmir state.
Reacting to the media reports that the Government is contemplating to hold ULB and Panchayat polls later this year, Vakil said holding elections at this critical phase will be an insensitive decision and only “mentally bankrupt” people can take such decisions.
He said it is unjustified to ask voters to come out for vote when people are getting killed. The Government should re-consider the security situation before announcing dates for elections, he said.
“The priority should be to restore law and order and end bloodshed, instead of holding polls. It will be very insensitive to hold polls and will be like playing with the lives of common people. It can throw state in further trouble. The previous Govt could not hold a Lok Sabha election for one seat. How can this government now think of polls,” Vakil said.
Terming the dynastic politics a root cause of all the problems J&K has been facing, Vakil said the two families of Muftis and Abdullahs for the greed of power have thrown state into turbulent times. “It is the time for all of us to stand, unite and throw these families out of power once for all. Only then we can solve all our small and big issues,” he said.
The Party convention later passed three resolutions; stressing the Government of India to shun stubbornness and start result oriented dialogue with Hurriyat, setting up of a High Court Judge commission to inquire into all the backdoor appointments made in the regime of Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah and probe into innocent killings.
Vakil said that the casual and other daily wagers have been left without wages for month. “The Anganwari workers are protesting on streets and their grievances are not addressed,” he added.
