Highlight remunerative nature of vegetable cultivation: Nayak

SRINAGAR, May 28: Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department, Sandeep K. Nayak today instructed the officers for highlighting the remunerative nature of vegetable cultivation to attract more farmers into this farming.
He was speaking during a joint interactive session with farmers  at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi. He asked the officers to highlight the economic value of vegetables in market so that more area is brought under vegetable cultivation.
Director Agriculture Kashmir Showket Ahmad Beigh, Joint Director Agriculture Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, Joint Director Inputs (Kashmir) and all other concerned Chief Agriculture Officers, vegetable seed producers and vegetable growers attended the meeting.
Nayak said that vegetable cultivation is a profitable venture and the department will address all the problems faced by the vegetable growers. He said that in the venture of increasing the production, all stake holders will be taken on board and adequate budget will be allotted under this sector.
During the interactive session, farmers apprised officers about the problem faced by them on ground of including the non availability of quality seeds in ample quantity besides lack of proper marketing.  The farmers also demanded establishment of a vegetable market (mandi) at Narkara for proper marketing.
The officers assured the farmers their genuine demands will be discussed with higher ups and adequate steps will be taken to redress their grievances.
