JAMMU, July 9: The existence of the Toll at Lakhanpur, Jammu Tawi Railway Station, Udhampur Railway Station, Lower Munda in Kashmir and Upshi in Ladakh is against the theory of one nation, one tax, on which the GST was introduced in the country, if the Toll exists after the implementation of the GST in the State,” said former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while reacting over threat of Jammu traders protest over the issue.
Former Minister stated this while interacting with prominent persons at Narwal Bala and Kashipur Ashram at Gadigarh.
He said the retention of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur will automatically sky-rocket the prices of commodities of common use. However he welcomed presidential notification issued for implementation of GST in the State but he vehemently criticized State Govt. for imposing the burden of double taxation on goods hampering the business interests of business community.
Expressing dismay over the stoppage of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, former Minister blamed BJP-PDP Government for its complete failure to provide security cover to Amarnath Yatra in the Kashmir valley.
Taking strong note of “spurt” in militant attacks on forces on J&K highways, Bhalla demanded heads of various security agencies to ensure fool-proof cover to Shri Amarnath Yatris and “deal sternly” with militants. He also sought details of the ‘security plan’ drawn for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage and urged the security agencies to increase the vigil along both the Yatra routes in Kashmir.
Strongly flaying the callous and insensitive attitude of the Govt, he said that the people of Jammu region are made to suffer due to scorching heat and soaring humidity with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts despite assurance.
Reminding the BJP-PDP coalition of the assurances doled out by it during the Budget Session for early holding of ULB elections, Bhalla regretted the inexplicable delay and repeated postponements of the same despite the state Elections Authorities having indicated their preparedness on scores of occasions.
Bhalla while criticizing the agenda of alliance said political initiative taken by the coalition to support and strengthen reconciliatory environment and built stakes for all for peace and development can have serious repercussions.
