High-level panel to monitor progress on 4-lanning of Jammu-Srinagar NH

JAMMU, Mar 30: A high-level committee is being constituted in order to monitor the progress on four-lanning of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on regular basis.
This was stated by Minister Incharge R&B in response to the question of independent MLA from Langate, Engineer Abdul Rashid in the Legislative Assembly.
“The project monitoring committee will monitor progress on monthly basis and up-date the Government so that impediments are removed and work is completed expeditiously”, the Minister said.
He informed that 95.30% of four lanning of Jammu-Udhampur stretch has been completed and remaining work would be completed by September 2015. Similarly, 67.88% of Chenani Nashri Tunnel has been completed and likely date of completion of the tunnel project is May 2016.
“The tenders for Udhampur-Chenani, Nashri-Ramban and Banihal-Ramban stretches have been received at National Highway Authority of India Headquarters and are presently under evaluation”, he said, adding “the works are likely to be awarded soon. A completion period of three years for Udhampur-Chenani and Nashri-Ramban stretches and three and half years for Ramban-Banihal stretch has been prescribed from the date of commencement”.
According to the Minister, the construction works of four lanning of Srinagar-Qazigund stretch with special reference to Srinagar-Khanabal has been delayed primarily due to land acquisition issues, floods and inadequate mobilization of funds. He, however, said that all out efforts are being made to remove the bottlenecks on Srinagar-Qazigund stretch with a view to accelerate the pace of the work.
