JAMMU, Jan 19: Cluster University Jammu (CUJ), in collaboration with INTACH Jammu Chapter, organized “College Heritage Volunteer Forum”, here today at Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The meet was aimed to deliberate on the significance of preserving rich natural and cultural heritage and also deriving strategies towards heritage-based development of our city.
On the occasion, Kuldeep Wahi, senior vice-president of Prayatan Vikas Mandal, spoke about preservations and understanding of our heritage and culture. S M Sahni, Convener, INTACH Jammu Chapter, presented a welcome address. Prof Koushal Samotra, Principal GCW Gandhinagar was the guest of honour.
Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University Jammu, was chief guest on the occasion. She stressed on the preservation and conservation of our heritage and culture adding that the protection of our environment should be our priority. She stressed upon the development of Smaller Urban Centres in the city and also on adopting an integrated approach for heritage development. She also emphasized that a sustainable preservation of our heritage and culture be adopted in the State.
Shiva Rawat, National Coordinator, Heritage Education and Communication Services; INTACH New Delhi, discussed the role of INTACH and its contribution to the society in terms of reusing and restoring artifacts.
Dr  Twinkle Suri, Dean Student Welfare, Cluster University Jammu , exhorted on the preservation of our heritage which is a bridge between the past and present to nurture a civilization that is socially sensitized, aware and ethically responsible.
The Resource Persons for the Technical Sessions were;   Aparna Tandon (Heritage expert), Saleem Beg (State Conveener, ITACH; J&K and former member National Monument Authority of India), Vinod Malhotra (former Development Commissioner Town Planning Organization, J&K Government), Dr C M Seth (Co-Convenor, INTACH J&K; Environmentalist) and Dr Lalit Seth (Art Historian, former Sr faculty Institute of Music & Fine Arts).
Prof Sudhir Singh (Event Coordinator, INTACH Jammu Chapter) gave detailed report on the workshop held.
The programme was compared by Dr Sandhaya Bhardwaj from the Department of English, Govt SPMR College of Commerce, and coordinated by Prof Aekta Gupta, Cultural Coordinator Cuj and other faculty from various Colleges.  Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Twinkle Suri.
