Helmet Rally taken out to mark Road Safety Week

JAMMU, Apr 27: In connection with 29th National Road Safety Week, Motor Vehicles Department today organized an impressive Helmet Rally which started from the University of Jammu.
The rally was flagged of by Transport Commissioner, Saugat Biswas. More than 150 bikers donning helmets, from different bikers’ club, participated in the rally spreading the message of importance of wearing a helmet. Preeti Choudhary, one of the proud helmet wearing bikers, emphasized the importance of wearing bikes by women riders.
The rally which started from University Ground passed through Qasim Nagar Chowk, Batra Hospital Road, Sidhra, Panjthirthi, Parade, Vivekanand Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Vikram Chowk, Main Stop, Police Lines, Ambedkar Chowk, Police HQ Chowk and culminated at University Ground, roaring courlorfully through the streets of Jammu. Red FM, media partments for the event spiced up the flagging off at Jammu University.
Speaking to the media, the Transport Commissioner informed that the department is conducting the Road Safety programmes throughout the week and theme of today’s “Helmet Rally” was to emphasize the importance of helmet wearing. He informed that every year about 11,000 bikers lose their lives in the country for not wearing a helmet while riding.
SSP Traffic Jammu Joginder Singh also participated in the function of helmet rally and made strong appeal to all bike/scooter riders to wear helmet for their own safety. The function was attended by RTO Jammu, Deep Raj, ARTO, Jugal K Sharma, Rajesh Gupta, Shafqat Majeed, Pawan Sharma, MVI’s and other staff members of the department.
