Heavy shelling in Pallanwalla, Rajouri, Poonch sectors

JAMMU, Nov 17: Pakistan army resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling targeting forward villages and Indian Army posts in Pallanwalla, Balakote and Manjakote along the Line of Control (LoC) this evening.
Official sources said Pakistan started heavy firing with automatic weapons followed by mortar shelling in forward villages of Chakala, Battal, Keri and Palatan in Pallanwalla sector in Akhnoor tehsil of this district at 7.15 pm today.
“Army from this side immediately gave befitting response to Pakistan, leading to heavy exchanges,” sources said, adding that exchange of firing and shelling continued till late tonight.
Pakistan Army directly targeted the civilian population in Chakala, Battal, Keri and Palatan villages of Pallanwalla sector, apart from forward posts of the Army.
“A very effective response was given to Pakistan army,” sources said.
However, there were no reports of any casualties on the Indian side in Pakistan shelling and firing, they added.
A number of people from forward villages of Pallanwalla immediately shifted to safer locations after start of firing and shelling.
Late in the evening, Pakistan also resorted to heavy shelling at Tarkundi in Balakote sector of Poonch district and Kanga Gali and Panjgrain in Manjakote sector of Rajouri district targeting forward Army posts and civilian areas. Indian side was giving very effective response, sources said.
There has been no let up in Pakistan shelling and firing on the LoC since September 29 when Indian troops had carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) killing 50 militants and Pakistan army personnel. Recently, seven army jawans of Pakistan army were killed at Bhimber sector across Nowshera in Rajouri district.
However, the International Border (IB) has been calm since November 1.
