Heavy rush leads to stoppage of Mata Vaishnodevi yatra

KATRA, Dec 31: In view of massive rush of the devotees on the eve of New Year, pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine was temporarily stopped this evening.
Reports said that the yatra was stopped after the number of registered pilgrims crossed 49,907. Till last reports came in, there was heavy rush of the devotees waiting for their registration at the Katra Base camp.
Pertinent to mention that  National Green Tribunal had recently ordered for restraining the number of pilgrims visiting the shrine no more than 50 thousand per day.
There were long queues of the devotees waiting for their registration since early this morning. As the number of registered pilgrims crossed 49,907, the Shrine Board authorities closed the registration two and half hours before the scheduled time.
81, 71000 pilgrims have visited the world famous holy shrine this year. The number is highest in the last three years.
