Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 14: Holding the Health &Medical Education Minister responsible for the unprecedented and irreparable loss caused to the aspiring youth of Jammu in the form of denial of supplementary PG seats in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Harsh Dev Singh, chairman JKNPP and former Minister has sought his immediate resignation on moral grounds. He said that with 28 extra PG seats already having been announced for Medical College, Kashmir and another 20 additional seats being in the offing for the GMC Jammu had been totally disregarded and administered the most obnoxious doze of discrimination with a BJP Minister being at the helm.
Observing that primacy of ministerial responsibility is and has got to be the lynchpin of democratic and accountable Government, Singh said that the Health Minister could not evade responsibility merely by making the GMC Principal a scapegoat and sacking him. He was addressing a huge rally in RS Pura today organized by the local unit of the JKNPP which started from Miran Sahib and culminated at RS Pura.
Observing that political leadership was responsible for omissions and commissions in their respective Departments, Singh said that ministers could not display political cowardice by penning down the lapses and Department’s failures on selected officers. He said that when the Government Departments achieved excellence in some field, the impudent and self flattered ministers patted their own backs but when lapses occurred the blame was deflected to subordinate officers. He said that the Health Minister was himself answerable to the people of Jammu region and must display courage to assume the responsibility for the prejudice caused to GMC Jammu.
Pointing towards the unwholesome bias perpetuated against Jammu region in all other sectors during BJP-PDP rule, Singh said that BJP had compromised the very dignity and self respect of the people of Jammu region. He said that dozens of dharnas, protests and agitations were being organised on day to day basis in the Winter Capital of the State against the gross injustice being doled out to Jammu region with the mandated leaders failing to utter a single word for redressing the grievances of aggrieved sections. Making a particular mention of the agitating sections of employees and educated youth,  Singh vowed to fight for the rights of DRWs, NHM and Anganwari workers, Safai-Karamcharis, SPOs, ReTs besides contractual lecturers.
Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yash Paul Kundal castigated the State Government for its failure to compensate the farmers of the border areas whose crops were damaged during the last two years due to Pak shelling as also by the natural calamites. The two leaders lambasted the Government for its U-turn over the issue of allotment of 5 marlas of plots to border dwellers in safe zones. They further demanded the release of compensation in favour of the NOKs of border dwellers for loss of life, property, livestock, crops, houses in consonance with the assurances doled out to them from time to time.
