Headley’s confessions

The man, who played important role in providing Pakistani terrorist organization LeT critical photographic information of roads, buildings, lanes and bye-lanes, and environs of Mumbai, where their suicide bombers launched attack in 2008, has deposed before a court of law in Mumbai through video conference. Originally a Pakistani but now a US citizen, he has become an approver facing 35 years of imprisonment in the US for being an accomplice in the Mumbai attack. He has made sensational revelations of how he was drafted by one Sajid Mir as an activist of LeT, received training in arms, and was assigned the “adventurous” task by Hafiz Saeed and Lakhvi, the arch enemies of India and barbarians of classical age, of mapping Mumbai for attack.   He has said that the entire plan of Mumbai attack was charted by ISI and has also named three ISI officers of Major rank who were the key persons in managing the entire mission. Twice had the suicide team failed and in their third attempt on 26/11 they succeeded and struck at Mumbai killing nearly 160 persons and injuring many others.
This is a major evidence to tell the world how terror machine is put to work by Pakistani State and its army. The claim of Pakistan that non-state actors are involved in attacks in Kashmir or elsewhere in India is rubbished by the revelations of Headley.  His confessions prove that there are no non-state actors and there are only state  actors in Pakistan. The simple deduction from Headley’s confessions is that Pakistani State itself is the biggest terrorist providing A to Z support to terrorist outfits to carry the scourge to India.  After one of the key actors of Mumbai attack has made these revelations, the G-20 should not wait to label Pakistan a terrorist State. They have committed themselves to coordinate counter-terrorism information and activities. So far no graphic and first hand information is obtained by any agency about the highly organized terrorist machine in  Pakistan and Headley’s statement assumes great significance because he has been an insider and has met with all major actors of terrorist machine in Pakistan. His statement reveals that Pakistan not only allows its soil to be used for terrorist activities but also lends full support to planning, execution and funding of terrorist attacks on India. Unless stringent decisions are made by international community like declaring Pakistan a terrorist state, imposing sanctions, stopping all aid and imposing embargo on purchase of military hardware from any country in the world, Pakistan will not stop promoting global terrorism. Also the world community should serve an ultimatum to Pakistan to dismantle the ISI and also cut Pakistan army to its size. India shall have to re-think her policy of proceeding with futile and senseless talks with Pakistan on official level.
