HC seeks status of investigation in ETT scam

SRINAGAR, Sept 10: High Court today sought information from Crime Branch on investigation about the session 2011 in Elementary Teachers Training Colleges as also the effectiveness of amendment in J&K education rules.
Hearing the PIL with regard to irregularities and embezzlement in ETT Colleges across the State, the Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice D S Thakur after the information that necessary amendment in education rules have been done, sought effectiveness of the amendment.
Court also directed Inspector General of Police Crime Branch to apprise the Court on next date about the process of investigation with regard to session 2011 held by ETT colleges.
Court had directed for necessary amendment in education in education rules in order to regulate the activities in Elementary Teachers Training Colleges across the State.
Today State Counsel B A Dar (AAG) submitted before the Court that in tune with the directions of the Court amendment in the rules has been affected and in this connection proper SRO has been issued notifying the effectiveness of the amended education rules.
Court has also sought details of ‘NOC’ with regard to affiliation and recognition of institutes as also the action taken against the ETT institutes, which have violated the rules.
Since there is huge number of such colleges across the State which are running illegally as such CB is investigating the matter on year-wise and progress of investigation may be permitted by the Court.
It may be mentioned Court previously directed for closure of those ETT colleges which have been found operating illegally and in this connection Divisional Commissioner Jammu was directed to comply with the directions.
