HC seeks report on condition of roads in Valley

Srinagar, Dec 11: High Court today directed the Public Works Department to file the detailed compliance report regarding condition of various roads in the Valley and their up-gradation.
The direction was passed by the Division Bench of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey after the Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) who was present in the court informed that he has certain details available regarding compliance of directions passed on October 4.
Pertinently court on October 4 had directed CE R&B to submit an affidavit indicating as to why the officers of R&B are not cooperating with court commissioners appointed for inspection of various national highways and court had observed these officials are preventing the correct status be produced before the court. “CE shall file an affidavit and try to dispel impression we are getting”, DB had directed.
Court today recorded that CE is required to file a detailed compliance report indicating therein as to what steps have been taken in achieving the target and object as emphasized by virtue of the last order.  “Week’s time is granted to him for filing the detailed compliance report. List on Dec 15”, Justice Mir and Justice Magrey said.
Court also directed NHAI to file the status regarding Srinagar-Sonmarg road.
Meanwhile, advocate Fayaz Bhat who is one of the court commissioners appointed for Srinagar-Bandipora road submitted before the court that he has prepared the report and shall file the same before registry with copy in advance to counsel for parties.
Court also directed the counsel representing RAMKY Engineers which is the Executive Agency for various roads to file a detailed report about the present position of the roads and also to indicate there-in the progress of the work, whether safe roads are provided for movement of commuters.
CE is also required to draw up a plan in terms of October 4 direction about every district where roads to be dug up for utility services or for other reasons, so that whatever work is to be done be done prior to the macadamizing of roads.
