HC seeks report on assistance to flood victims

Srinagar, Sept 19: Taking suo moto cognizance of various news reports, the High Court today sought response from Government about measures taken and proposed to be taken for assistance to victims of 2014 floods.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice D S Thakur in a suo moto cognizance of various news reports published on September 7 this year one of them with a caption ‘4 years on, Kashmir flood victims await financial aid’ sought report from the State authorities regarding the measures taken and proposed to be taken for providing the relief to victims of 2014 floods.
Court also sought report regarding measures taken so that such kind of deluge does not deter the city. Court in its first hearing of the cognizance made party Commissioner/ Secretary I&FC and Chief Engineer I&FC and issued notice to these officials to respond the cognizance by or before October 17.
Court on the authenticity of these news reports said, if these reports are true then State take the steps of making policy and make the same public.
