JAMMU, Sept 27: In a petition seeking CBI probe into allegations leveled against former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand by his the then PRO Kewal Krishan Sharma, High Court today sought entire record of inquiry conducted by the then SSP Jammu.
When the petition came up for hearing, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed submitted that the then SSP Jammu Atul Goel succumbed to the pressure emanating from the then Deputy Chief Minister and he closed the preliminary enquiry mechanically even without associating the petitioner who had lodged the complaint.
He further submitted that the preliminary enquiry was closed on the sole statement of Kewal Krishan Sharma, who later denied the allegations leveled during the press conference held on July 26, 2013. He further submitted that the then SSP Jammu in a secret enquiry recorded the statement of Kewal Sharma on February 25, 2014 wherein he took a complete U-Turn and deposed that the allegations were leveled during the press conference on being prompted by political opponents of the then Deputy CM including one Pawan Kumar who belongs to Chamb constituency.
After considering the submissions of both the sides, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal directed Senior AAG W S Nargal appearing for the Home Department to produce on the next date the record pertaining to enquiry conducted by the then SSP Jammu Atul Goel whereby he had closed the complaint lodged by the petitioner seeking constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations leveled by Kewal Krishan Sharma.
