HC seeks compliance on polythene ban

Srinagar, July 10: High Court today sought compliance report from Government about ban on use of polythene in the State.
The court was informed by the Amicus Curie Nadeem Qadri that despite ban orders, the polythene is used as well as sold in the markets as such the orders of the court are being violated by and large.
Court was hearing PIL for making arrangements about local segregation and treatment of the solid waste and implementation of Solid Waste  Management Rules and after making submission by the amicus, court directed the State counsel to file report about the direction passed on April 4 by next date.
Court on April 4 had sought report from Government in so far as ban on procurement, sale and distribution of all kinds of plastic, polythene and other non-biodegradable materials is concerned.
Court had added that if there is ban on use of plastic and other polythene items the concerned officials shall effectively implement  the same. The High Court had warned if there is any deviation on part of officials they will suffer consequences with costs.
