HC seeks appearance of CEO Gulmarg

Srinagar, Feb 17: The State High Court today sought personal appearance of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) before the Court  regarding illegal constructions in Gulmarg.
The Division Bench of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey in Public Interest Litigation about protection of famous tourist resort directed the GDA officer to be present before the court on next date of hearing “List on 1st March along with all connected MPs enabling the respondents to file their reply/objections as the case may be.
Meanwhile, concerned /senior officer of Gulmarg Development Authority shall remain present on that date to assist the court”, DB directed.
The main issues which are being dealt by the Court in the PIL are encroachments in and around the tourist resort, pollutants emitted by the hotels, illegal constructions in and around the tourist resort, demarcation of the GDA land and framing of Master Plan of the Gulmarg.
Trial Court of district Baramulla is also dealing with infamous Gulmarg land scam to which previously High Court had directed the trial court to expeditiously proceed in the said case.
Court has already made it clear that those constructional activities are to be stopped which are being raised without grant of permission by the competent authority.
Court has also directed for seizing of constructional material, which is being transported illegally towards the tourist resort and concerned authorities have been already directed for seizure of the said material.
To prevent any kind of constructions, directions have already been issued to the officials of GDA/ SDPO and  SHO Tangmarg to ensure that no illegal construction is carried out at tourist place of Gulmarg and in this connection ‘Nakas’ have been established at specific locations in Gulmag area to prevent entry of any material for construction purposes.
Master Plan for Gulmarg is also yet to be placed before the court as the Advocate General of the State previous had submitted that  Draft Master Plan will be placed before the Cabinet for its approval.
