HC disposes off flood insurance claims PIL

Srinagar, Feb 21: High Court today disposed off a Pubic Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by traders after 2014 devastating floods seeking settlement of insurance claims. The court said that as the majority of the claims have been settled and the leftover should approach appropriate forum with their grievances.
The PIL was filed by the traders’ body through their Advocate Z A Shah for immediate settlement of insurance claims after 2014 devastating floods in the State.
The PIL has been closed after the appearing counsels on behalf of various insurance companies made statement before the court that majority of the claims have been settled.
“…Therefore nothing survives for the adjudication in the PIL”, Division Bench of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice D S Thakur said with the condition that if anyone is still aggrieved then he is at liberty to approach the insurance company and the said company shall proceed in the matter in accordance with law.
