SRINAGAR, May 9: High Court today directed the relocation of the houseboats in Dal lake to the Doledemb area and asked the Government to rehabilitate the Dal dwellers.
The Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Masoodi asked for the relocation of the houseboats for saving the world famous lake from pollution and shrinkage.
The Advocate General of the State, M I Qadri told the court that 500 Dal dwellers were rehabilitated by the Government and efforts are on to rehabilitate the others.
The High Court has also directed the Pollution Control Board to destroy 40,000 kilogrammes of polythene that has been seized and asked the PCB to dump the remains deep inside the earth.
