HC directs MEA to ascertain nationality of woman

Srinagar, Mar 13: High Court directed the Ministry of External Affairs to call the Pakistan High Commission in order to ascertain the particulars of a woman in order to repatriate her.
As the Assistant Solicitor General of India produced two letters addressed by MEA to Pakistan High Commission in India for conveying confirmation of one Rubeena’s nationality but no positive response has come from the High Coummission despite the detainee (Rubeena) giving her place of origin, the court directed the MEA authorities to approach the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi, the to intervene in the matter.
“Considering the earnest plea and the prolonged detention, the Ministry of External Affairs is directed to make a further approach to the High Commission, of Pakistan in New Delhi, to verify the particulars,” directed the Court of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar.
Court also took note of the prolonged detention of Rubeena and directed state government for requisition of the help of well trained lady psychiatrist, either from Srinagar or from Jammu, to visit and ascertain her conditions for suggesting measures to help her till the issue of mother-daughter’s repatriation was resolved.
