HC directs LAWDA to observe lakes conservation weeks

Srinagar, Mar 10:  High Court directed the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) to observe lakes conservation weeks every year.
The direction followed after the amicus to the PIL suggested that LAWDA could observe two weeks in a year as lakes conservation weeks.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmad and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey directed the LAWDA to observe the second week of May and first week of October each year as lakes conservation weeks.
With regard to high power aerators, court has been apprised that LAWDA has received two tenders which have been found to be eligible in so far as the technical bids are concerned and the financial bids are to be opened within a week’s time.
As regards to 3D modeling on the floor of the lake, court has been informed that fresh EOI has been issued in February and 21 days time has been prescribed for submission of proposals which is going to expire on coming Monday and thereafter the same shall be processed. “The further status report be submitted indicating the progress in the matter”, DB directed.
In so far as creation of public awareness is concerned, it has been indicated in the compliance report that a contract has been awarded to a private agency and it has been directed to conduct awareness programmes once the schools reopen after the winter vacations.
Court has been informed that one such programme has already been held on previous week this month. The salient features of the awarenees programme for preservation of the water bodies have also been submitted before the court.
As regards to procurement of machinery for the purpose of dweeding and removal of  lily pads, court has been informed that a memorandum has been prepared for submission to the cabinet taking into account the urgent need for procuring of such machines.
