HC directs Govt to go ahead with construction of Rajbagh foot bridge

SRINAGAR, Aug 11: High Court today directed the Government to go ahead with proposal for construction of pedestrian bridge at Rajbagh.
The ‘go ahead’ has been given after Jammu & Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) filed its report for pedestrian bridge but not vehicular bridge.
Amicus to the PIL and Senior Counsel R A Jan vehemently opposed the opinion of JKERA and submitted before the court that it is only figment of imagination of the agency that vehicular bridge would be disastrous.
The High Court  had sought a detailed report from Jammu & Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) after conducting on spot survey on bridge constructed at Rajbagh, Srinagar to find out whether the site is feasible for vehicular bridge or not.
Advocate Jan sought week’s time to the court to prove with the help of engineers from outside that the report of JKERA is not correct and court granted him time, but directed the authorities to ‘go ahead’ with the proposal of construction of pedestrian bridge on the site with the rider that it is subject to opinion of amicus to the PIL.
Since the court has already put on hold the construction of the other bridge which is being constructed parallel to Abdullah bridge, court said today the direction with regard to the bridge would be intact.
