HC directive in petition challenging selection of teachers

JAMMU, Oct 8: In a petition filed by bunch of candidates seeking quashment of selection of the 40 private respondents for the post of teachers in District Cadre Kathua, High Court today issued notices to the Service Selection Board.
In the petition, it has been submitted that the selection was made by ignoring better merit and claim of the petitioners and in violation of principles of equality as provided under Articles 14 & 16 of the Constitution. It was further submitted that the selection was made without following fair procedure established by law and having adopted unfair, unreasonable, illogical and opaque and not uniform criteria.
After hearing Advocate HC Jalmeria appearing for the petitioners, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal issued notice to Services Selection Board, which was waived by Deputy AG Mohd Nadeem Bhat. Justice Kotwal directed Deputy AG to keep the record available pertaining to merit position in written as well as viva voce of the candidates.
Justice Kotwal further directed that subject to objections, selection/recruitment to the post of teachers vis-a-vis district Kathua shall remain  subject to further orders.
