MENDHAR, Oct 27: Poonch District Inter Tehsil Football Tournament concluded today at Op Hill Stadium, Mendhar with Haveli Tehsil team lifting the trophy.
The tournament began on October 26. In the tournament, all tehsils of Poonch district fielded their teams consisting of amateur young players from remote areas, who were otherwise not getting adequate opportunities in sports.
The aim of the tournament was selection of a team to represent Poonch district in Inter District Football Tournament to be conducted at Mendhar next month for students of J&K. It will help the students to interact with each other and foster a spirit of sportsmanship.
The proposed tournament will also revive and propagate the culture of sports in the State and lead to improvement in the overall health of the youth.
In the Inter Tehsil Tournament, the teams played each other on knock out basis and Mendhar and Haveli qualified for the final. Haveli tehsil team won the championship by defeating Mendhar tehsil with a score of 11 – 0 in a strongly contested final.
The tournament saw an overwhelming response by all sections of society especially the youth of each tehsil of Poonch district and brought out the best amongst all players.
