JAMMU, July 16: Alleging large scale irregularities in the recent transfers of Masters in Jammu Division, NPP leader and former minister Harsh Dev Singh accused the Department of Education of indulging in large scale whimsical transfers in circumvention of transfer policy.
Talking to media-persons here today, Panthers Party leader alleged that the Education Department had thrown all norms and procedures to winds and effected highly irregular transfers which had created all round condemnation in Jammu region. He expressed his dismay that the transfer list of Masters revealed large scale ‘zero’ km transfers of Masters in blatant violation of transfer norms which were reported to have been made on monetary considerations which however,

He said that such zero km transfers had fully exposed the hollow claims of the Education Department where transfer mafia still ruled the roost. He said the list of transfers of Masters available with him indicated that the much trumpeted transfer policy had been blown into smithereens by the reckless officers with no regard whatsoever for the prescribed guidelines. Expressing shock over the ludicrous nature of transfers, he said that there were instances where the masters serving in the two schools sharing a common boundary were transferred from one premise to the other on extraneous considerations.
Likewise, there were several glaring examples of the masters serving in the schools which were clubbed into one under the so called rationalization policy, had mutual transfers from one school to the other against the guidelines of the transfer policy. He said that several Masters on conditions of anonymity revealed that they were transferred more than 100 kms from their respective places of residence as they refused to fulfill the illegitimate demands of middlemen involved in the process of transfers. And all this notwithstanding the fact that the remote areas they belonged to also faced chronic deficiency of teaching staff, complained the said Masters.
Urging upon the Chief Minister to take cognizance of the large scale irregularities in such transfers, Singh called for a vigilance or SIT probe into the whole gamut of transfers.
