Harsh flays Govt for its failure to revise passenger fares

JAMMU, Jan 27: JKNPP chairman and former Minister, Harshdev Singh has flayed the Government for its failure to revise the passenger fares and transport charges despite huge decline in the international prices of petroleum products.
In a statement, Harshdev Singh said though the Government had been persistently harping on reduced oil prices and trying to take undue credit but no benefit had in practice percolated down to the common man as the passenger fares and transport charges had remained at the same level.
He said that the most outrageous aspect of the whole matter was that despite heavy decline in the global oil prices the Union Government has levied heavy excise duty on petroleum products with a view to augment its resources at the cost of common man.
He said that petrol in India costs around Rs 60 per litre approximately. But contrarily, he pointed out that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) which is superior, has a higher octane than petrol and is a heavier fraction in the distillation process, is priced at Rs 52.42 per litre only.
Singh called upon the Union Government to slash the excise duty as also to revise the transport charges in view of great resentment brewing amongst the common man.
