SRINAGAR, Apr 24: The Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Haji Mohammad Haneefa Jan today visited Sonamarg and took stock of snow clearance work from 434-km long Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway-1D at Zojila Pass, 15 kms from Sonamarg.
The Chief Executive Councillor was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Tariq Hussain Ganai, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, Capt Yadav of BEACON and other officers.
Capt Yadav informed the CEC that the snow clearance work is almost clear and only one more avalanche is remained to cleared which will be completed by this evening and the road will be linked today. He further informed that they will play BRO vehicle on trial basis tomorrow.
During his visit to Zojila Pass, Haji Haneefa Jan stressed on the BEACON authorities to put every possible effort to clear the avalanches so that LMV may be allowed to ply on the highway from Wednesday subject to weather permits. He also expresses dismay over the slow pace of snow clearance work from BEACON side.
The CEC further asked them to widen the road to restore the traffic immediately on the sole link road between Srinagar-Kargil-Leh so that the supply of essential commodities like ration, kerosene and other things can be dispatched to the people of Ladakh region who are cut off with the rest part of the country from several months due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass in winter.
Haji Haneefa Jan also asked the Additional SP Ganderbal, traffic police and other concerned agencies to regulate the traffic smoothly after its opening so that the commuters may not face any kind of hardship while travelling on the Highway.
Earlier during his meeting with the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police at Jammu, the CEC asked for shifting administrative control of Zojila Pass upto Sonamarg to district administration Kargil, allowing the Project VIJAYAK of BRO for starting the snow clearance work beyond Zero Point and sanctioning of independent post of Deputy SP Traffic on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway especially at Zojila Pass for its early opening and smooth traffic regulation.
