Hakla for special package to Gujjars, Bakerwals

JAMMU, July 10: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader has expressed concern over lack of basic facilities in the habitations of Gujjars & Bakarwals in the State.
In a statement issued here, today he said these areas are lacking basic facilities of life like road communication, electricity, water supply schemes, medical facilities and educational facilities which put Gujjars & Bakarwals in lot of hardships and trouble.
Hakla said that the Gujjar Bakarwal community of the State mostly resides in hilly, far-flung and mountainous areas near forests and on the LOC of Indo-Pak. The community has its habitation in 20 districts of the State with a population of over 34 lakh people, he added.
He said the community has peculiar type of needs as their living style is altogether different form other people and community is socially, educationally, economically and politically backward.
Hakla appealed to the Governor, N.N.Vohra to approach the Government of India with the recommendation for sanctioning the special developmental package for the Gujjars & Bakarwals of the State for developing their habitations.
