KATRA, Jan 15: Wrestler Gurjant of Amritsar, Punjab lifted 119th Annual Panthal Kesari 2019 title by defeating Wrestler Rohit of BSF of Chandigarh in a neck to neck contest that lasted for 9 minutes at Village Panthal, near here. Gurjant was adjudged as the best Wrestler in the Vishal Dangal.
Dangal was organized by Swami Nitya Nand Wrestling Association on the eve of Makar Sakranti.
The winner of 1st malli bout Wrestler Gurjant was given a cash prize of Rs 21,000 in addition to ‘Gurj (Gadda)’ and ‘Patta’ by SDPO Katra Vivek Shekhar, President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma, Surinder Bhagat, SHO Katra Surinder Singh Sambyal, Pritam Kumar Magotra and Mukesh Khajuria while runners-up Wrestler Rohit got Rs 20,000 by Wrestling Promoter and Social Activist Ram Paul Sharma, and Parsotam Kumar Khajuria (Bittu).
Social worker and Congress Leader Surinder Bhagat was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away cash prizes to the winner and runner-up Wrestlers. Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, President Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Katra Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function. SDPO Katra Vivek Sheikhar, SHO Katra Surinder Singh Sambyal and Naib Tehsildar Panthal KK Sharma were the guests of honour.
Prominent persons who were present on the occasion were Sarpanch Panthal Suresh Mengi, Sarpanch Rajinder Kumar Thappa, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Ram Paul Sharma, Virender Sharma, Lochan Singh and Sunil Dogra.
39 bouts were held in this Wrestling extravaganza.
The 2nd main bout was won by Wrestler Baboo of Bhabae Wali in Punjab who defeated Wrestler Gurpreet of Zirakpur (Chandigarh). Winner Baloo was cash awarded with Rs 17,000 and runners-up Wrestler Gurpreet got Rs 14,000.
The 3rd bout was won by Babba of Kot Bhalwal, Akhara Domana who defeated Vikas of Bahadurgarh (Haryana). Winner wrestler Baba was cash awarded with Rs 11,000 while runner-up wrestler Vikas got Rs 10,000.
