JAMMU, Jan 27: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Udhampur Pawan Kumar Gupta today staged walk-out from the Lower House alleging discrimination with his constituency in the health sector.
Challenging the reply given by the Minister of State for Health and Medical Education Asiea Naqash in response to his question, Pawan Gupta said, “vital facilities have not been provided for the Trauma Centre, which is a part of District Hospital Udhampur”, adding “Trauma Centre is even lacking Air Conditioner what to talk of other facilities like adequate number of doctors and para-medical staff”.
“For the last two years I have been raising this issue in the House but the Government has failed to meet the requirement of Trauma Centre thereby compromising on the healthcare facilities”, he further said while expressing dis-satisfaction over the reply given by the Minister in this regard.
Referring to another part of his question, the Udhampur MLA said that while Maternity and Children Hospital has been sanctioned for many areas of the State his constituency was deprived of the same despite the fact that after SMGS Hospital largest number of deliveries are being performed in Udhampur Hospital.
“The intensity of discrimination can be further gauged from the fact that the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had sanctioned BSc Nursing College at Udhampur but the same has not been established till date”, he further said.
On this, the Health Minister said that State will request the Union Government for extension of Maternity and Children Hospital scheme and if decision is taken Udhampur will be considered.
However, Udhampur MLA left his seat in protest and entered the Well of the House in protest against alleged discriminatory treatment with his constituency. After agitating for some time, he staged walk-out while tearing apart the written reply furnished to him by the Government.
