Gupta condemns political killings in Valley

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 23: Condemning the political killings on the eve of the polling in Kashmir valley, the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta alleged that there appears to be a gang up between certain politicians and the ultras who have little faith in democratic values and intend to have their ways through foul means including that of human blood and sufferings to the mankind.
In his statement, Prof Gupta observed that such sad incidents apparently are intriguing especially when there is high security alert and more so, when there were claims about the eradication of menace of gun culture.
He said that such sort of scare helps only the vested interests as the poll boycott makes their task easier and power of vote is curtailed and politicians get elected with small numbers.
In this regard, he pointed out that during last Assembly elections as many as 46 Assembly members from Kashmir were elected for just 15 lakh polled votes where as in Jammu 37 members were elected after the polling of 21 lakh electorates. Thus, the votaries of boycott have made the task of Kashmir politicians easier. All this needed a deep look about what is happening there.
Prof Gupta deplored the highly controversial utterances by certain politicians in Kashmir and impressed upon Election Commission to pay their special attention to the happenings there.
