SRINAGAR: The upper reaches, including the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and tourist resort of Pahalgam, received fresh snowfall, while incessant rain lashed this summer capital and other plains in Kashmir valley.

Meanwhile, the mercury during the day plunged several degrees due to wet weather in Kashmir though the night temperature improved and settled above normal at majority of the places.

A Met department spokesperson said that moderate rain and snow would occur during the next 24 hours at widespread places in Kashmir valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region. “Only isolated rain and snow would occur on Tuesday,” he said, adding a fresh WD, which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region on Wednesday, which would result in more wet weather.

Much to the delight of skiers and tourists, the ski slopes at the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, received fresh snowfall since early this morning, resulting in dip in the day temperature. The maximum temperature in the ski resort was over 2 degree below normal. (AGENCIES)
