Gujjars appeal Govt to expedite process for inclusion of Gojri in 8th Schedule

JAMMU, Apr 7: Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation –an organization of Gujjars, has made an appeal to Union Government to expedite the process for inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.
The appeal has been made in response to a communication received from Union Minister of State for Home Affairs R P N Singh wherein Government has admitted that the case regarding inclusion of Gojri in Constitution of India is pending with Union Government.
The memorandum regarding inclusion of Gojri in 8th Schedule was submitted by the Tribal Foundation through PCC chief and MP Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz on February 3 this year.
According to Dr Javaid Rahi, Secretary of the Tribal Foundation, a team of Gojri writers, poets and intellectuals along with Gujjar political dignitaries will visit Delhi shortly to press upon the Union Government to speed up the matter regarding inclusion of Gojri into Indian Constitution without any further delay.
He said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also recommended the case of Gojri language for inclusion into 8th Schedule and prior to this Governors from time to time recommended the cases of Gojri to Union Government.
Mr Rahi appealed all the Gujjar leaders and the community residing in 12 States of India to join hands together for a long drawn struggle for recognition of their mother tongue at National Level.
