Govt to set up complaint committee in offices on sexual harassment

SRINAGAR, Oct 5: The Government has directed all offices to constitute complaint committees to look into sexual harassment cases in the State.
In a written reply to a question by Anjum Fazili in the Legislative Assembly here today, Social Welfare Minister Asiea Naqash said the sexual harassment of women at workplace (prevention, prohibition and redressal) Act 2013 has been extended to whole of India, including Jammu and Kashmir.
The Act provides for protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and prevention and redressal of complaints and for further matter connected therewith or incidental thereto.
Accordingly in April 2014, all the district magistrates have been nominated as district officers for the purpose of the Act to exercise powers within their respective jurisdiction as laid down in the Act.
The Minister said that similarly in a circular in 2014, all the Government offices have been directed to constitute the complaint committee for the purpose.
Anjum Fazili has asked about the steps taken by the government to establish women’s grievance cells in public offices and institutions in view of the rising graph of harassment of working women in the State.
