Govt taking measures to safeguard interests of marginalized sections of society: Zulfkar, Kohli

JAMMU, Nov 29: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department and Tribal Affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today said the State Government is committed to safeguard the interests of the downtrodden and marginalized sections of the society and appropriate steps are being taken in this regard.
Addressing a convention organized by J&K Reserved Categories Employees Association at Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust here, Zulfkar said a big chunk of the State’s population resides in backward areas and have no access to quality education and other facilities. He said reservations in jobs are aimed at improving the economic and social standard of the people of SC, ST, OBC and RBA and other such categories.
He said through reservations the deprived sections of the society get advantage to improve their life standards and live at par with the people who are enjoying best educational facilities.
Addressing the gathering, Minister for Transport, Abdul Gani Kohli said the Government has launched several employee-friendly schemes and is working towards larger welfare of the workforce.
Minister for Cooperatives, Chering Dorjey, Deputy Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Vice Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Board, Aga Syed Muhammad Baqir Rizvi, Legislators, Asgar Ali Karbalai, Dina Nath Baghat, Dr Davinder Kumar Manyal and Javaid Rana also addressed the gathering.
