Govt to revive cooperative sector to generate employment opportunities: Dorjay

JAMMU, Feb 9: Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay today said the Government is committed to revive the cooperative sector as it has huge potential to generate employment opportunities for the State.
The Minister said this during the concluding function of a training programmes “Nurturing cooperatives as institutions for developing agriculture and allied activities” and “Developing cooperatives as rural growth centres,” organised by TOPIC Institute of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) under RKVY.
Member Legislative Council, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Secretary Cooperative Depart-ment, Himmat Kumar Sharma, Advisor TOPIC Institute, NCDC Gurgaon,  S.K. Tucker, Regional Director, NCDC, Chandigarh, Tejmahinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, along with officers from various departments and representatives of various cooperative societies were also present in the function.
Highlighting the importance of the training programmes, the Minister said the aim of the programmes is to enhance awareness among the officers to explore the possibilities of investment in their respective sectors by availing assistance under RKVY, other Central Sector Schemes and under the schemes of NCDC.
The Minister said that cooperative movement has played a vital role in economic development of the State and cooperative institutions came to play a constructive role in the distribution of rural credit, agriculture inputs and consumer articles.
He reiterated the commitment of the present Government to boost the cooperative movement in view of its huge potential to generate employment through well establishment and profit generating cooperative societies.
The Minister particularly stressed on generating awareness  regarding the modern techniques and new developments in the cooperative sector among the youth so as to eradicate the unemployment in the state.
Dorjay also assured that the present regime will leave no stone unturned to streamline the functioning of the cooperative sector in the State.
