NEW DELHI, Dec 21: Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) may consider certain concessions for visually challenged and other specially challenged employees in Government services.
This was disclosed today by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh while speaking to representatives of “Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled” led by its General Secretary, Mahantesh G.K. and accompanied by noted TV personality Rajdeep Sardesai.
Dr Jitendra Singh recalled that on the World Disability Day on 3rd December, he had announced that the transfer policy had been relaxed in case of such Government employees who happen to be parents or caregivers of a disabled child. On the same lines, he said, Department may also think of certain special provisions or privileges for disabled employees in Government Services depending upon their special requirements like, for example, if there is a regular medical help being sought by a certain employee in a definite town or place of posting, there could be a liberal or relaxed approach while considering the employee’s transfer to another place. Similarly, he said, there could be a provision for special leave to be granted to such of the employees who excel in sports, arts or music or some other cultural activity and wish to take off for participation in a related event.
Dr Jitendra Singh advised the members of the Trust to prepare a comprehensive document spelling out their special needs and priorities so that the DoPT could accordingly frame its proposal. He also informed that there is already an age relaxation of 10 years in upper age limit for persons with disability to apply for jobs under Central Government.
At the same time, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Government has expedited the process of filling up the 3% reservation of vacancies for direct recruitment applicable to Group A, B, C & D services and similarly 3% reservation for promotion applicable to Group C & D.
