Govt should manage power from Northern Grid: PCC chief

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Jan 6: Expressing his serious concern over the long  and unscheduled power curtailment in the entire Kashmir valley, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir  today blamed the PDP- BJP Coalition for failing to ensure adequate supply of electricity to consumers in this harsh winter.
Lashing out at State Govt for its callous attitude towards the difficulties of people, Mir said that 90 % decrease in supply of power has made the lives of people difficult and Govt is not coming out of the power corridors to address the concerns of the people.
He said winter is not new in the valley. “Why the State Govt is not purchasing the power from Northern Grid ?  Every year, the State used to purchase electricity from Northern Grid to address power crisis, but why this time Govt is not serious about the power crisis? “ Mir asked.
He said hardly  5 to 10 % power is being provided in both metered and non-metered areas, besides the heavy snow fall has added more problems to the people in entire Valley.  Govt seems to be more careless about the resolution of other problems such as snow clearance in both plain and hilly areas and  availability of other  essentials being required for living, particularly in hilly areas.
Mir said people in the entire Valley are being punished by PDP -BJP Coalition for no fault of theirs. Kashmir Valley has never seen such a difficult situation before, he added.
PCC president asked the Govt to ensure adequate supply of electricity  in the Valley and ensure that every house hold in both plain and hilly areas do not suffer on account of electricity and other essentials.
