Govt keen to promote sports activities: Lal Singh

JAMMU, Jan 25: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Choudhary Lal Singh today said that promotion of sports activities in  the State is priority of  the  government, adding that various reformative initiatives are being taken up in this regard.
“It is a firm determination of the Government to provide all requisite facilities to the players of the State with emphasis on those living in rural areas”, the Minister maintained.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing the concluding function of 3-day Inter-District Football tournament under CAP held at BSF stadium Paloura.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Ravi Kesar, Director Social Forestry Ashwani Gupta, Chief Conservator of Forests Farooq Gillani, Conservator Kh Qamar-ud-Din besides senior officers of BSF and Forests were present on the occasion.
In the eight day football tournament, 9 matches were played and the final match was played between Samba A and Samba B.
Choudhary Lal Singh said that the Government is making concentrated efforts for developing sports infrastructure in the state with special emphasis on traditional sports in the state.
The Minister said that several stadia and playgrounds have been developed on modern lines for providing better facilities to the youth. He emphasized the need for inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship and its role in character building of the youth. He said that such events help nurture the talent of the players and stressed on providing apt opportunities to them.
Earlier, the Minister interacted with the players of both the teams and wished them great success ahead.
Later, the Minister felicitated the winning team, best Goal Keeper and Top Scorer.
