Govt giving special attention to development of border areas: Sham

JAMMU, Mar 11: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today said the Government has taken several path-breaking initiatives to ensure equitable development of the State and special attention is being given to uplift the living standards of people residing in border areas.
The Minister said this while addressing the gathering after kick-starting construction work of two lanes at village Dableher to be constructed at the cost of Rs 10 lakh each.
He further informed that the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has released Rs 50 lakh for each constituency in district Jammu for undertaking civic works. The works related to construction of lanes, drains and carrying out other activities for improving sanitation in various villages of Suchetgarh have been identified and these works would start soon, he added.
Earlier, the Minister inspected ongoing flood protection works along river Tawi in Jassore, Kalali Tibba and Badyal Brahmana. He issued instructions to the officers of I&FC Department to complete the protection works within stipulated time-frame so that loss of human life, livestock, agriculture land and property near the river can be checked.
Earlier, the Minister also convened public grievance redressal camp at Suchetgarh where the people hailing from various nearby villages participated and apprised him about the problems being faced by them related to power supply, water supply, education, healthcare, relief compensation, sanitation and telecom.
They also demanded replacement of old electric cables, upgradation of transformers, construction of lanes and drains in their respective villages.
The Minister assured them that their demands would be looked into and redressed accordingly.
