Govt employees reluctant to perform in Ladakh

JAMMU, Jan 16: Shocking it may sound but it is a fact that Government employees including those of KAS cadre are reluctant to perform duties in Ladakh region thereby creating numerous problems for the people of cold desert region.
This can be gauged from the reply furnished by none else than the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Minister Incharge General Administration Department, to the Congress MLA from Nubra, Deldan Namgail in the Legislative Assembly.
The Government Vide Order No.80-GAD of 2016 dated January 29, 2016 posted one KAS officer as Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra. However, the officer on the ground of being medically unfit could not join and accordingly he was attached in the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu.
Again vide Order No.532-GAD of 2016 dated May 20, 2016 the Government posted another KAS officer as SDM Nubra. However, he too produced a medical certificate mentioning that he is not fit for posting in cold and hilly areas. As such he was transferred and posted as Deputy Registrar, J&K Special Tribunal.
Thereafter, the General Administration chose not to make any attempt to fill up the vacant post of SDM Nubra as a result of which the same is lying unfilled during the past several months. “The post of SDM will be filled-up shortly”, the Chief Minister said but without specifying the time-frame for issuing posting order despite the fact that in the absence of SDM the people of Nubra have been facing many difficulties in obtaining different services.
“This clearly establishes that non-Ladakhi employees in the Government are reluctant to perform duties in the cold desert region and they manage to get their transfer orders modified”, sources said, adding “the General Administration Department should evolve a mechanism whereby it becomes mandatory for the employees transferred to Ladakh region to join duties instead of pressing for modification of orders”.
