JAMMU, Nov 6: On the auspicious day of incarnation of Lord Dhanwantri, the National Ayurveda Day was celebrated with full enthusiasm, fervor and gaiety at Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Jammu. Previously this day used to be celebrated as Dhanwantri Jayanti but by acknowledging the importance of Ayurveda due to its Global resurgence & acceptance, Ministry of AYUSH, GoI, decided to observe Dhanvantari Jayanti as National Ayurveda Day since 2016. Dhanwantari Jayanti is celebrated two days before Dipawali i.e Dhanteras in which Lord Dhanwantari appeared on this day during Sagar-manthan having four arms, Amrit kalash in one hand, Ayurvedic herbs in 2nd, Counch in third & Chakra in 4th hand.
The celebration commenced with lightening of lamp by Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Sunanda Raina followed by Hawan & Dhanvantari Vandana by BAMS students along with cultural items. Special prayer was conducted to seek the blessings of Lord Dhanwantari to shower the ailing humanity with his bounties of healthfulness. Principal addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of the role of Ayurveda in the society and impressed upon the students to put their maximum efforts to attain best knowledge of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is gaining popularity at national as well as international level. It has been proved by adopting and celebrating International Day of Yoga every year in more than 140 countries. Moreover in present era, people are suffering from various life style disorders viz. diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular problems, hyperactive disorder in children and Ayurveda is the only solution of all these problems.
State Government has reopened Government Ayurvedic Medical College after 42 years in 2017. The faculty and students of the College left no stone unturned for the successful celebration of National Ayurveda Day.
The function was attended by Deputy Director ISM, AC Store ISM Jammu, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Administrative Officer, Officer Incharge Store, Clinical faculty, teaching & non teaching staff and students of Government Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu. The function concluded with a pledge to implement the principles of Ayurveda in actual life and to promote and enrich Ayurveda in Society.
