Govt assigns academic streams, faculty to 2 new Engineering Colleges

JAMMU, Dec 15: To make the two new Engineering Colleges in the State fully functional, the Government today approved six engineering streams each for these colleges with an intake capacity of 360 students for each college.
According to an order issued by the Higher Education Department, the Engineering College at Safapora in district Ganderbal will offer Bachelors in Engineering in Computer Sciences, Mechanical Engine-ering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering and Food Engineering with an intake capacity of 60 students for each course.
The Engineering College established at Janglote in district Kathua will offer Bachelors in Engineering in Computer Sciences & Information Techn-ology, Electronics & Commu-nication, Mechanical Engine-ering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Biotechnology Engineering with an intake capacity of 60 students for each course.
The Government has also ordered bifurcation of the posts of Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, with each college getting 7 posts of Associate Professors and 15 posts of Assistant Professors.
Pertinently, the State Cabinet had in its meeting on October 3 this year approved establishment of two Government Colleges of Engineering and Technology in J&K under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
The Cabinet had also approved creation of 136 teaching and non-teaching posts for these colleges.
The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) had sanctioned Rs 52 crore for establishment of infrastructure for both institutions.
