Govt announces winter vacations for schools

Srinagar, Dec 13: Government today announced winter vacations for all schools of Kashmir and Jammu Division’s winter zone and said winter schooling shall be provided to students in order to compensate academic losses suffered during five-month long unrest in Valley.
According to an order issued by Commissioner/ Secretary to Government, School Education Depart-ment, Shaleen Kabra, the last working day upto class 8th shall be December 15, 2016 and the winter vacation shall be observed with effect from December 17, 2016 to February 28, 2017.
As per the order, the last working day of classes 9th standard onwards shall be December 24, 2016 and the winter vacation shall be observed with effect from December 26, 2016 to February 28, 2017. The order has been issued for both Government and private recognized schools.
Further, the order issued by Commissioner/Secretary reads, in terms of departmental policy to provide optional winter schooling to the students to compensate the loss suffered during current year, the Director School Education Kashmir has been asked to notify schools where classes will be held for 8th to 12th standard and for those who have taken 12th class exam.
The DSEK has been further directed to notify schools for holding Super-50 coaching classes and make all infrastructural arrangements for the smooth conduct of classes/ coaching. The Commissioner/ Secretary said similar arrangements for schooling/ coaching shall be made by Director School Education, Jammu.
