JAMMU, Feb 26: Governor N. N. Vohra and First Lady Usha Vohra inaugurated the 28th Jammu & Kashmir Police Public Mela at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground, here today.
Bharati Vaid, Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, lady members of the Association, B.R Sharma, Chief Secretary, Dr. S.P. Vaid, Director General of Police, and B.B Vyas, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, were prominent among those present on the occasion.
The First Lady lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the commencement of the Police-Public Mela and students of the Police Public School, Miran Sahib, Jammu, presented a welcome song on the occasion.
Governor and First Lady, along with the DGP, Bharati Vaid and other dignitaries, went around the stalls put up in the Mela and showed keen interest in the goods, particularly the hand made ones from various districts of the State, which were on display for sale.
First Lady interacted with the stall holders and made some purchases.
At the stall put up by the Traffic Wing of the Police, the Governor discussed with the Director General of Police the urgent need for taking strict measures for enforcing traffic management in the State, particularly focusing on implementing specific measures for reducing fatal road accidents which are taking a heavy toll every month. He also advised urgent attention to reduce the heavy congestion at the Ban Toll Post where he has noticed 1-2 Km long queues of vehicles.
Governor and First Lady were briefed by Bharati Vaid about the aims and objects of the Mela and about the activities of the organization which are aimed at securing the welfare of police personnel and their families, with special attention to widows and orphans. The Governor interacted with the families of martyrs present on the occasion, and lauded the ongoing efforts to promote the welfare of JK Police.
In the evening results of  8968 raffle draw prizes were announced . The draw was held in presence of large gathering of people from all shades of life.
Lucky draw numbers for prizes of different categories were held in presence of Director General of Police, Dr. S. P. Vaid, Chairperson, J&K Police Wives Welfare Association, Bharati Vaid, senior police officers and lady members of PWWA.

Accordingly 12th Prize, (80-Cash Prizes of Rs.1000) went to  ticket numbers with last four digits 2925.
Likewise 13th prize (800-Cash Prizes of Rs.500) went to tickets having last three digits 355.
14th Prize (8000- Cash Prizes of Rs.200) went to ticket numbers having last two digits 97.
