JAMMU, Nov 17: Governor N.N Vohra inaugurated the two day “3rd International Conference on Recent Trends & Advancement in Engineering & Technology-ICRTAET” and  annual “Technical Festival-Titiksha” of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University which are being held in the University, at Kakryal.
Usha Vohra, First  Lady of the State was present on the occasion.
Welcoming the participants to ICRTAET, the Governor expressed his happiness to be associated with the event and observed that such programmes provide a platform to exchange ideas and discuss advancements and newer techniques  in varied areas of science and technology. He exhorted the students to test all new ideas in the University’s Technology Business Incubation Center for shaping viable concepts into commercially feasible technologies.
Governor said that SMVDU, which is essentially a technology University, is dynamically identifying new areas of learning which are demanded by the job market. He observed that the availability of the Choice Based Credit System provides large flexibility to the students to choose the areas in which they want to specialize.   He exhorted the students to make the best use of their time in the university which is offering them a vast range of subjects taught by a competent faculty which has state of the art infrastructural resources.
Governor urged the Vice Chancellor to explore if some of the papers presented by the SMVDU’s students and faculty could be incubated for practical application. He urged the students to work on technologies which would advance the cause of conservation of environment, sustainable use of natural resources, increasing production and productivity of agricultural and its allied fields, utilization of solar resources etc.
Governor released a copy of “Conference Abstracts of Proceedings”on the occasion.
Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor SMVDU highlighted the objectives of the programme underway.  He said that 180 papers have been received from various parts of the country and some are from Italy, U.K, Germany, Africa and South Korea.
The VC informed that TITIKSHA 2016, which is an assimilation of over 100 events divided into central and departmental events comprising 12 departments, will envelop various innovative and unexplored technical fields in association with challenging and interesting events. TITIKSHA, in addition to Technical Events, will have a Game Zone, Adventure Zone and a Musical Concert.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Jha, President Board for Professional Activities, presented the welcome address and Chetnya Gupta, Titiksha Student Coordinator presented a vote of thanks.
