JAMMU, Feb 1: The J&K NCC Contingent comprising 102 NCC Cadets, which participated in the Republic Day Parade and NCC Camp 2017 in New Delhi, was felicitated by Governor N.N. Vohra, and Usha Vohra, the First Lady, at the Rajbhavan here today. Major General Nilendra Kumar, Additional Director General and officers of the Jammu and Kashmir NCC Directorate accompanied the contingent.
The Governor complimented Maj. Gen. Kumar, his officers and the Cadets on the high quality of the cultural items presented by the Cadets. The Governor observed that the NCC plays a very important role in the development of youth, who are the future of the nation. He said that the training, besides, guiding and motivating the young generation to become responsible citizens equips the Cadets to come to the society’s aid when any situation arises to deal with the natural or man-made emergencies.
The Governor observed that the progressive expansion in the NCC strength in the past several years was a matter for great satisfaction. He also expressed satisfaction that all the three wings of NCC shall soon be fully functional in the State. Lauding the performance of J&K’s NCC cadets at various national level events the Governor particularly congratulated the 3 girl Cadets from Leh who climbed Everest in summer last year. He noted that participation of Cadets in National Integration Camps provided them a valuable opportunity to see different areas and become aware of the country’s vast linguistic, religious and cultural diversity.
Earlier, the Governor also interacted with the Cadets who were achievers in different national events and congratulated them for their individual and group achievements.
Major General Kumar, presented the Welcome Address and highlighted the achievements of the cadets during the year 2016. He informed that 01 Cadet of J&K has been selected for the National Shooting Championship, 03 Girl Cadets scaled Mount Everest on 22nd May 2016; 04 cadets were selected to visit friendly neighboring countries for Youth Exchange Programme for the year 2016; 2 Cadets participated in Naval Cruise at Mauritius; 6 Cadets were selected for NDA from Sainik School Nagrota; 3 Cadets have been selected in NCC Special Entry Scheme; 1 ANO and 1 Cadet has been awarded Defence Secretary Commendation Card; 1 ANO and 4 Cadets awarded DG Commendation Card; 1 Cadet awarded Gold Medal for Best Pilot; J&K contingent secured 1st position in Line Area Competition and Cadet Baby Sharma secured 2nd Position in Health and Hygiene competition held at New Delhi during Thal Sainik Camp (19 September -30 September 2016); J&K secured 9th position in Nau Sainik Camp at Karwar, 3rd position in cultural and 1 Cadet awarded Best Cadet award; and J&K Directorate secured 2nd position in Social Services activities.
