JAMMU, Mar 14: Governor N.N. Vohra and First Lady Usha Vohra hosted about 270 boys and girls and men and women from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram who are on an exchange visit to Jammu and Kashmir under the North East Youth Exchange Programme organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Jammu & Kashmir, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor and First Lady lauded the beautiful folk dances presented by the participants. Governor suggested that the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan could prepare documentaries of such cultural programmes and circulate them for viewing by school and college students in different states.
Highlighting the importance of Youth Exchange Programmes, Governor observed that they are extremely valuable for promoting understanding among people belonging to different areas of our vast country who speak different languages, follow different religions and are from diverse cultural backgrounds. He observed that such exchanges enable the youth to visit other States and get acquainted with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
Governor observed that awareness amongst the youth from various parts of India about the diversity which obtains in our country would also contribute towards bringing all our people closer together.
Governor, who is Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, invited the participating youth to visit the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and directed the concerned officials to make all arrangements for their visit and to treat them as guests of the Board.
The welcome address was presented by Sukhdev Singh, State Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan and a vote of thanks was given by S.S. Kashyap, Deputy Director Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, J&K.
