JAMMU, Feb 18: The Goenkans of class V and VI were all pepped up for another interesting British Council Activity, a Collage Making Competition, where they got an opportunity to exhibit their skills and talents.
The theme of the Collage Competition was “The Culture & Educational System of USA, UAE & India.”
It was a delight to witness the students pre-prepared with all their materials. It was evident that at such a young and tender age, they learned the concept of self dependence- a key life skills of the 21st Century. The agenda of the activity was to focus more on the concept and not just the content of the topic.
The students’ horizon was certainly broadened by the continual support, help and guidance from their faculty.
It was not just a Collage Competition but a methodology of drawing comparisons between the three powerful countries thereby making the children confident, capable, independent and self assuring young adults.
Meanwhile, another British Council Activity was organized for the students of Class V. The theme of the Activity was “Celebration of Festivals, Languages, Costumes and Life styles of USA and UAE”.
A group of students represented UAE and displayed the glittering and renowned Dubai Shopping Festival that focuses on the elite and aristocratic sections of the society. The students were dressed in complete traditional Arabic attires with a Dishdash (white scarf) and Agal (white robe). The students also represented various Models where the emphasis was on “Go Green”.
Apart from all this, to satiate one’s hunger pangs, Dates, Falaphal, Briyani, Figs, Kebabas and other such delectable food items too were on display.
Another group of students represented America- the largest Democracy (Area wise). Since America was a colony of Great Britain, several influences of the British Culture too were displayed. The students conversed in French, German and American English.
America is often called a melting pot of cultures. Therefore, to celebrate their unity in diversity, a bevy of dances like Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop etc were showcased.
The Principal of the School, Rajesh Rathore lauded the effort of the students, the support and co-operation of the parents and continual guidance of the teachers to make this event, a grand success.
